Who We Are

Heather Bowling Lanes, located in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, is the "go to" bowling destination for Pictou County residents. Founded in 1968 by Bill Sobey,  the center was named after Bill's daughter Heather. Originally located on the Westside of New Glasgow as a 16 lane centre, the facility expanded to a 20 lane centre when it moved to its current location in 1993. At one time, Bill and his family owned 4 bowling alleys under the Heather Lanes name (New Glasgow, Glace Bay, Sydney, and Sackville) but now only the New Glasgow location remains.

The facility's focus is Candlepin Bowling, which is a type of bowling played primarily in the Canadian Maritime provinces and the New England states of the United States. We offer Youth Bowling Programs, Adult Bowling Leagues, Cosmic Bowling, Birthday Parties, and much more. Strongly community oriented, Heather Bowling Lanes strives to provide a welcoming environment for anyone wanting to enjoy the sport of bowling in Pictou County

We are now fully licensed !!

Etiquette and Safety

BOWLING ETIQUETTE
  • Be ready to bowl when the pins are set, but wait until the pinsetter machine has completed its cycle and the sweep bar is raised to make delivery. Throwing a ball before the machine is ready may damage the ball or equipment.
  • The bowler on the right throws first.
  • Taking too long to aim or get set up when you are on the approach delays the game.
  • Try to remain in your approach area while delivering the ball.
  • Observe the foul line.
  • Step off the approach once you have delivered the ball.
  • Good bowling requires concentration. Have fun, but keep in mind that excessive movement or noise could be distracting when others are up to bowl.
  • Excessive "lobbing" of the ball hurts your games and damages the lane.
  • Get permission to use another bowlers balls.
  • Refrain from using abusive language or obscene gestures.
  • Play the game to win but be a gracious loser. Good sportsmanship is always the key to a successful game.
  • Remove outdoor footwear at the door - wet shoes are a safety hazard.
KEEPING IT SAFE
  • Stay off the approach, unless it is your turn to bowl and you are not interfering with other bowlers on either side of the lane.
  • Never walk on another lane. You may not only interfere with someone's game but also their safety.
  • Do not bring food or drinks into the pit area. Food debris and beverages spilled on the hardwood floors create a safety hazard as someone may slip and fall.
